about

El Navarro is a queer Filipino-American interdisciplinary artist, organizer, and kayak instructor! They are based in Portland, Oregon and graduated from the University of Oregon in 2022 with a B.S in International Studies and a B.A in Romance Languages (Spanish and French). They are passionate about climate and water justice, healing justice, and abolition. They are currently a student in the Independent Publishing Resource Center’s Art Book Portfolio Program. They are interested in the intersection of the natural, the political, and the artistic – creating art not just as a means of personal healing or an expressive outlet, but a practice that can (and has) shaped our communities and world.

Their primary art mediums include collage, letter press, screen-printing, monotype printing, and poetry. In their art, they explore themes of colonization and identity, human relationships with the elements, the downfall of capitalism and the US empire, and the silly struggles of a twenty-something year old. They are interested in creating multi-media art books that play with color, texture, scale, and text to engage the senses.
